Le Vidomne

Le Vidomne was founded by Albert and Meinrad Gaillard in 1985. In the Middles Ages, a “Vidomne” was the person who collected the tithe (about 10 percent of the harvest) on behalf of the local lord, as well as the place where this tax was paid.

You can find us in Chamoson (Valais), a town with almost 430 hectares of vineyards. Our 2,5 hectares of vineyards bear the designation of origin (“Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Chamoson”), thanks to our area well-known for its great clay-limestone terroir.

At first, we used to vinify four “cépages”: Chasselas, Sylvaner, Gamay and Pinot Noir. Nowawdays, it is more than 20 varieties, such as Petite Arvine, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Diolinoir, Syrah and even Malbec. All of them thrive on our estate.

Le fameux Bâton Rouge

In 1987, we created “Alizées”, a high-end Chasselas, and “Mélograno”, a blend of nobles red varieties, such as Gamay and Pinot Noir associated with Diolly Noir and Gamaret. Both creations come from vineyards older than 40 years.

In 1990, we launched “Modus Vivendi” (“A way of living”), a line of barrel wines: Modus Vivendi Chardonnay, Modus Vivendi Syrah and Modus Vivendi Vidomne (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah). All of them have been stored in oak barrels for at least 24 months and have aged in bottles for a year before being sold.

In 1998, to innovate and stand out, we planted Barbera and Sangiovese, two cépages, to create a new wine, “Bâton Rouge”. It ages in 450 litres oak barrels during 4 years, before being bottled. The bottles remain in storage during 6 months, and only then they are available for sale.

In 2015, we introduced our new wine in the Waldhotel Fletschorn: “Area Malbec plus” is a great blend made of 85 percent of Malbec and 15 percent of Petit Verdot, stored during 24 months in new Seguin Moreau oak barrels.

Our strictly checked performance, as well as the neat and rigorous vinification process, guarantee the great quality and strong personality of our wines. As a result, we received many awards in great competitions like “Vinalies Internationnales de Paris”, “Le Grand Prix du Vin Suisse”, “L'Etoile du Millésime du Valais” or “Vinéa”.
